SOS Children’s Village Jaffna

Jaffna Village is situated just 4.5 kms from Jaffna Nallurs Nayanmarkatta. This new SOS Children’s Village is a home to 95 children including 21 children in the SOS youth facility.

SOS Children's Village was dedicated to the children of Jaffna on January 05, 2014 amidst modest celebration.

The Foundation stone for the SOS Children’s Village Jaffna was laid on the 14th of February 2012 and during the foundation laying ceremony, the district secretary and the district court magistrate visited. The probation commissioner of Northern Province has visited the rented houses in Jaffna houses on several occasions.

For a warm beginning for children and families the House Warming Ceremony held on August 23, 2013 amidst religious rituals.

The sixth SOS Children’s Village in Sri Lanka is situated on 2.5 acres land. As SOS Children’s Villages constructed everywhere; the child-friendly facilities and peaceful ambience reflect here at Jaffna also. Children will find a home and a family that will help mitigate their traumatic experiences they have had to go through due to the Northern conflict. Most of them have lost both their parents and had nobody to call their own. Today these children live happily in SOS Homes in Chettikulam.

Children already attend Karate classes and proudly won awards by participating in tournaments. They also took part in several events in athletic and have won many medals. Children are involved in music (vocal Carnatic, music and violin); some children are very much interested in Bartram cultural dancing.
